Scientific Explorer Magic Science for Wizards Only Kit is the perfect gift for the curious child who wants to master magic. Anyone can learn and perform a magic trick, but a true master magician understands the basics of how magic works and can take that knowledge and create original tricks! Magic Science contains nine activities that teach boys and girls tricks using chemical reactions, which can be applied to future stunts! Create your own wizard wand to cast spells, make your own magic hat, make ordinary powders mystically foam and change color, create your own test tube crystal ball and more! Includes Citric acid (3oz.), Baking Soda (2oz.), Vegetable oil (2oz.), Cross-linked polyacrylate. copolymer (1oz.), Red cabbage juice powder (0.25oz.), Zinc sulfide (0.07oz.), 12 color tablets, 4 test tubes with a stand, 1 wizard wand with 2 caps, 1 small scoop, 1 medium scoop, 1 sheet of star stickers, 1 sheet of purple paper and 1 science and activity guide. Recommended for children 6 years of age and older with adult supervision.
What a fun set–and so perfectly packaged.
I figured this was going to be a lot of “add vinegar to baking soda and watch the magic happen!” And though, yes, baking soda and vinegar play major roles in this set, there is definitely other fun stuff happening in the kit, too.
Magic Science Kit was a hit for 7 and 8 year olds
I bought two of the Magic Science Kits as Christmas gifts: one for seven-year-old twin boys, and one for an eight-year-old girl. I was there when the boys opened the package, and they immediately began to do some of the experiments, aided a little by their eleven-year-old sister. I think the attractiveness of the kit is aided greatly by the test tubes and the wand. I wasn’t there for the package opening by the eight-year-old girl, but her mother told me that she also began combining the ingredients and doing some of the experiments. The thank-you note I got from the little girl (yes, an actual thank-you note!!) said that she loved the kit and that she had done four of the experiments. Overall, I think I can count these kits as successful presents, not too difficult for the recipients to tackle and conveying just enough of the feeling of doing something wizard-y and scientific..
Lot’s of fun!
My son had a great time mixing and creating with this kit. The hat was just a folded cut out from paper so, it lasted only a few seconds of his attention. Once he started with some of the easier experiments, he couldn’t get enough. The instructions are well written and easy to follow. Worth the price for the laughter that ensued.
A hit with our 8 year old son
Our son got this for Christmas two years ago at age 8. He needed supervision and some encouragement to stick with directions. He is now ten, still enjoys using what is left of it, and still needs supervision. Due to the simplicity of the components, many of the consumables are easily replaced with household items (i.e. baking soda). He went through the experiments over the course of a few months. A couple of times he snuck to get the kit and do unsupervised experiments, which resulted in a huge mess, but no permanent damage.
Fun Chemistry Set for Science and Magic Fans
The Scientific Explorer Magic Science Kit is low on traditional magic, but is great for lovers of science. As both a magic and a science fan, the kid was excited to get this kit. Most of the experiments are simple chemical (safe for kids) reactions, and while he couldn’t use it in his magic show, he did have a lot of fun putting on a “science show” for the family. The pieces in the kit are fairly durable, and the replayability of this kit is good – it’s not hard to replicate some of the experiments with household materials. Overall, if you have a science and magic fan, this would be a nice kit to give.
This is really fun. I bought this for my 7 year old …
This is really fun. I bought this for my 7 year old and my almost 4 year old to do together (with adult supervision, obviously) and they love it. I enjoy it and I’m the adult. I like that a number of the experiments use products that you can find in your kitchen. It makes it more fun to know that you can keep doing it even after the ingredients in the kit run out. (Looking at you, tiny bottle of vegetable oil)
