Roomy and well planned. A definite buy!
The size doesn’t SEEM big, but when you actually load it up, it’s perfect and generous! There’s room for so many ingredients in the top. I have tomatoes in the small section, two vegetables in the large, but there’s too for a third or for croutons, then plenty of room for protein in the largest section–notice there’s room for a whole egg not it in half. It also includes a small container for dressing which can easily go loose in the lower section for salad or be packed to fit perfectly in the sections above.
WARNING: might contain TARDIS parts……
As another reviewer posted, it really doesn’t SEEM all that big.
Get Creative with Your Lunch
Whoever came up with the idea for these things should win an award or at least be a millionaire by now. I’d like to think some regular old nice lady went on that show Shark Tank and presented this idea to them, then later on it was sold to Rubbermaid for a million bucks. Sometimes, somethings in life are just such a great idea, and these LunchBlox sandwich kits are that and then some. I love these things! We have three kids who all eat lunch at school and use them. And my wife takes some with her to work.
Happy salad – compact and cool
I really like this for a lunch salad. I have seen some reviews saying that this is small for a salad. I like that the box is compact but in my opinion it holds a lot (And I am not a small eater). I think how much the bottom holds would depend on if you used more lofty greens, like Romaine. That said, I put the dressing on the side and fill all of the top containers with toppings of the day, like grilled chicken, nuts, fruit, dried fruit, veggies, cheese, etc. I fill the bottom with spinach or field greens usually with some shredded carrots and broccoli shreds, and I usually push them down a slight bit.
Good for storage but smaller than I hoped
I know the dimensions are listed in the description, but I was still expecting these to be a bit bigger. I prep salads for myself at the beginning of each week so I can just grab one from the fridge before work each morning, so I ordered 5 of them. They stack nicely, fit into a drawer for storage perfectly, but I do wish they were a bit taller. The insert for the toppings takes up a good amount of room, so the greens really have to be packed down tightly in order to fit a good sized salad in, which makes eating it pretty difficult since the ingredients just fit into the container once everything is put together. Overall, I like them and will keep them, but I’m hoping Rubbermaid makes and XL version sometime in the future.
Bento Box with a built-in cooler
This nifty New Zealand version of the bento box has enabled me to enjoy healthier lunches at work. I’m able to to stow fresh veggies, fruit, a power bar, cheese cubes and cold-cuts in its two-story tight-sealing container. The rig’s nicest gimmick is a clip-on blue-ice pack that keeps the contents cool; I can leave it in my rucksack without having to resort to storing it in my office’s overcrowded refrigerator. The Lunch Blox is sturdy and washes out easily. Don’t be put off by the blue-ice brick’s overly snug fit to the bottom of the container: be patient and persistent, it will clip on easily once you’ve figured out how it works.
Perfect for a lunch bowl.
These are perfect for a lunch bowl. I don’t use the ice tray much, i have to say, but the size is just right and i like the containers for dressing, individual items. The dressing container is just the right size. They are holding up well with repeated washings, though the bowl tends to bow in a bit over time. It is not affecting it’s functionality though, it still snaps to the lid just fine.
***EDIT: One of my iceblox recently stopped snapping onto the container. I do use these a lot, so this may be the result of frequent usage. The iceblox still keeps my food cold, however.***
Love, love, love this concept!
Absolutely love this kit! Perfect for my lunches at the school, and it all stays cool and crisp inside due to the snap on bottom ice pack. Very convenient, easy to use, efficient, and I can make a really big salad in it, too! It appears smaller than you realize until you make and eat your salad later on. I love the additional ‘goodies’ snap on container as well, but I usually throw everything into my salad except for the croutons and dressing to keep things fast and easy. I even put my dressing container inside with the salad for more convenience and all stays cold. I will likely buy more of these as my husband is jealous and wants one for his work, too.
