Set includes four wooden, 12-piece vehicle jigsaw puzzles– a race car, a steam engine, a school bus and a fire engine– each stored in a separate compartment of a sturdy wooden box! The slide-on box lid doubles as a convenient puzzle board! Each puzzle piece is shape-coded on the back for easy sorting. Great for travel!
Home run fun for our autistic 4 year old vehicle crazy boy! M&D puzzles are the best!
My son is 4 and he’s getting really into jigsaw puzzles (the step up from the puzzles with a picture underneath or a shape cutout). We have probably 8 Melissa and Doug puzzles, and while we like some better than others, they’re all very well made and fun. This set of 4 is no exception! Here’s what’s great about it:

Love it. It’s a decent toy without the flashing lights and noise most toys in the store come with. As a parent you probably know how annoying noisy toys are. This toy allows for critical thinking I in a child. For a younger kid, you may want to try what another reviewer suggested, trace out the pieces on the wooden cover to help out the child figure it out initially. The 4 puzzles have exactly the same pieces . Buying the dinosaur puzzle by Melissa and Doug right now
A Solid Purchase
Great first jigsaw puzzle for my soon to be 3 year old. The puzzles come in a wooden box with four compartments and a lid that slides on easily. I will definitely be repurposing this box after my son outgrows these puzzles. The pieces easily fit in the box after opening. One thing I like, a very clever feature, is that even if all 4 puzzles are opened at the same time, it is easy to sort them out simply by turning them over, as each puzzle has its own marking (diamond, square, circle, triangle). Great opportunity to sort by shapes! Most of the puzzle pieces are pretty specific to its corresponding puzzle, so my son was able to put the puzzles together (for the most part) one by one even when he mixed up all the pieces. These are 12 piece puzzles, so your little dissectologist may outgrow them fairly soon. I think the only complaint would be the pictures of the puzzles (as seen on the box) are a bit small, but my son does not use the pictures as a guideline anyways.
LOVE All Melissa & Doug toys and this is no exception. This item is genius and a great on-the-go activity for travel.
well-made M&D product that is loved by my 2 year old
Solid, well-made M&D product that is loved by my 2 year old. The pieces are sturdy (compared to thin cardboard puzzle pieces elsewhere), relatively easy (depending on individual fine motor skill development) for a toddler to piece together, and the graphics well done. Some adult help is usually needed (had advanced beyond the peg puzzles) but these will keep my toddler entertained until we complete all 4 puzzles. I will also note that the puzzle is especially well designed for this age group. We have worked on other puzzles where the background is so similar it even takes the adult an extra minute to find the correct piece – not so with these puzzles. The box keeps each puzzle organized separately for easy storage/use (we haven’t lost a piece yet, knock on wood) and the pieces also have a unique shape on the back to further identify each puzzle. Overall, a great next puzzle for those moving beyond the earlier wooden/peg puzzles.
Great educational tool for toddlers!
Our grandson is 3; I wasn’t positive he was old enough for puzzles yet, but he enjoys seek-and-find games, so I thought what the heck. If nothing else, I’d store them until he was ready. Well, no storeage needed. These puzzles are great! And solid enough to withstand the force a toddler boy puts on pieces he feels should go together, even though they obviously don’t. 🙂 Despite the hours of abuse, the puzzle pieces are all intact (they’re wood), and the picture is still clear / not scratched at all.
Sweet Puzzles – 2 year old nephew loves the set
The puzzles themselves are great. I love the colors, the quality of the pieces, and the wood storage container. My only qualm is that the inside of the box has 4 compartments, and the pieces for each of the 4 puzzles just barely fit into each of the compartments. You’ll find that it is super easy to mix puzzle pieces without meaning to, simply because they move around just a bit inside the box. I’d recommend Melissa and Doug put little covers on each of the compartments. Otherwise though it takes about 30sec to make sure you have the right pieces before starting a puzzle.
Check the dimensions!!!
I should have checked the dimensions, these are REALLY much smaller than I imagined. I was picturing the normal about 8X11ish wooden puzzle. Not so much… BUT, it is what I wanted and my 3 year old loves the lil boxed set, and really the small size makes it perfect for him to cart all over the house from room to room without being to big and awkward. I’m saving the 2nd set to give as a gift for Christmas. I was going to dock a star because of the size but that wouldn’t be fair. They are nice quality puzzles and that was my slip up for not verifing the dimensions.
