This set contains eight pieces of wooden food, a cutting board and a wooden knife. Cutting the food makes a satisfying "crunch"–and a playful introduction to concepts of "whole," "part," and fractions.

I ordered this for my 2.5 year old daughter who is VERY curious about the kitchen, cooking, etc. She has a play kitchen and tons of plastic “play food”, however, I have found that she loses interest in them quickly overall (the play kitchen keeps her attention longer if/when we allow her to use real water in the pots and non-draining sink…). If this sounds like your child, read on!
Great toy to enoucourage speech and pre-writing skills (and my son loves it!)

My son is obsessed with this toy set. It was recommended by our speech therapist as a toy for open-ended play to encourage speech. She said it also encourages pre-writing skills (by teaching them to use one hand to hold the food while cutting with the other, the way they’ll eventually hold a piece of paper with one hand as they write with the other). I never understood these sets, but now I do. Santa did good with this one.
Worth the money! Quality product!
Melissa and Doug make great products. This wooden cutting set is adorable, has Velcro pieces to reattach well and makes for hours of fun! My son who was 2 1/2 at the time I purchased this was in love! We’ve had it for a few months now and he plays with it just about every day! He loves cutting and pretending!

2 year old enjoys this toy so much, I’ve made it my mission to buy all Melissa & Doug cutting toys. I’ve already ordered the cookies as well!

My 2Y4M son loves cutting food and plays with it several times everyday. The paint job on the fruit is not excellent, but it doesn’t effect the fun my son has. I was debating whether buying this or other brand with plastic cutting food, but I am glad I made the right decision. Because not only this wood food is true to size and easier for toddler to hold, the sound it makes when the cutting knife hit the cutting board is also realistic to the real action. I would recommend this set and I plan to buy another Melissa & Doug cutting fruit set to expend the kitchen toys.
Well made toys
Saw this set of toys when I visited a children’s play experience with my granddaughter. I saw these toys being enjoyed by many different children first hand. My granddaughter loves to imitate her mother cooking and has a complete child-sized kitchen. These toys will make an excellent addition. The simulated knife and cutting board provide realistic slicing play. The painted wood toys are of such quality my granddaughter will one day be able to pass them along to her daughter.
it’s a great set to have at the counter when the toddler …
it was a hit with the toddler chef! there is enough space that they can cut through at 2 1/2 years old. the velcro is strong enough to keep it together but it gives when they try to cut through with the wooden knife. it’s a great set to have at the counter when the toddler wants to help cook dinner
