The Cyalume SnapLight brings light to dark places. A cornerstone of emergency preparedness, survivalist and general safety plans for decades, these heavy-duty light sticks aren’t some glow stick you pick up at a party store. SnapLight provides bright, reliable, 360 degree illumination for up to 12 hours. The green SnapLight is so bright it can be seen from up to a mile away – so you can rest assured knowing it will provide enough light for rooms, hallways, stairwells or your walk back to camp. SnapLight is waterproof, non-toxic and non-flammable. The light stick has a hook and gate top, for hanging, attaching or stringing the lights together. To activate SnapLight, simply bend, snap and shake to immediately flood your surrounding area with functional light. Each green SnapLight measures 6” long, 10 sticks per pack. Each light stick is individually foil-wrapped for protection from light and moisture and boasts a five-year shelf life from date of manufacture. For technical specifications, see the Material Safety Data Sheet below. The maker of SnapLight, Cyalume, is a pioneer and world leader in chemical lighting solutions for tactical and safety applications. Does it’s job as advertised!
I also was led to these, through reviews, but found some reviews that seemed contradictory, some saying the lights lasted, other saying they were dim and did not last. Had to find out for myself! Ordered these and test fired a few, and found that they light up bright, and stay lit.
Bright and cost effective
Bought to keep in cars and use in camp, makes a great marker for trails to the head and tent locations. Perfect for emergency signaling when attached to a string and spun, the circle pattern is visible to rescue personnel and aircraft and not found in nature. All children are instructed in the use as a signal aid.
It’s been almost 9 months since we purchased the snap lights and we finally got a chance to use them last night. During an electrical storm, our power was knocked out at around 10pm. We have a three story house, so I placed 1-stick at the bottom of each staircase. 12-hours later both sticks are still glowing bright enough to light up the floor in daylight. I’m grateful to see that the product claims made by Cyalume were kept. The Snaplight gets the job done. Photo attached.
They are super bright at first
They are super bright at first. I did not time them to see how long they last, nor did I do a base line test of one in and one out of the pool. Which brings me to my point. I bought them to use in the pool vs installing actual lights. I have a 4′ x 16′ pool and one lit the entire pool quite well for the first 15 minutes or so. After about 15 minutes, they began to fade. Not too much, but fade none the less. My pool was pretty chilly (72) at the time I tried them, and the cool water may have been a contributing or even the only factor for why they began to fade. Not sure since I didn’t test one outside the pool at the same time. Anyway, they’re exactly like what I grew up with and was very impressed with the brightness and material used. I have virtually no complaint and am hopeful that as my pool warms up, the lights will stay bright much longer than when it was cool. Cheers!
Bright, long-lasting, and a good value
I bought these as a non-battery powered, non-sparking, water-proof emergency light source for adding to black-out kits I made for relatives. For most circumstances, this isn’t a good alternative to a decent LED flashlight, but if you need something that can be taken into the shower, carried in the rain, or used near a suspected gas leak, this is a great option.
Green Calume Light Sticks
Bought these “snap” light sticks to mark our campsite post at night for taking unexpected trips in the middle of the night to the latrine, showering and marking nite time danger zones like guide lines from tents, rocks and uneven ground on our site. They are advertised as 12 hour, but they stayed illuminated for 72 hours but gradually not as bright as the first night. (I think this was because we had a full shade site, and the sun didn’t degrade the chemical inside the stick) Still glowing on the last nite. Great for making a kid friendly glo-lantern . Always a family camp favorite!
Good for emergency use.
These are good glow lights for when you really need to put light somewhere temporarily. They are brighter than kids glow sticks that I have seen before, but they would be fine for kids to play with still. I bought these and kinda spread them around a bunch of places where I thought need them. I put a couple in my car, a couple in each of my two work tool kits, and a couple scattered throughout my house. So far, I have used the ones in my car and some of the sticks I put in one of my tool bags. They are not the brightest lights in the world, most any kind of flashlight would surely be better, but they are better than nothing.
Fantastic Lights for Utility AND Fun
I think I’ve purchased this 30 pack of Cyalume SnapLight sticks 5 or 6 times by now. I love these things. I’ve tried the other colors, but I don’t think anything beats green. I crack them open when the sun goes down, they stay bright until bedtime, and they provide great night time light for maneuvering in the dark when nature calls. The formed hook and eyelet provide the necessary connection points for tying a string around your neck or hooking to the top of a tent. The price is right for these handy little light sticks also. I’ve purchased cheaper ones for the kiddos to play with, but none that are of high quality and are as bright as these. Now I keep these stocked at the house and grab a handful from our stash for 4th of July celebrations, trick or treating, camping, electrical outages, random fun, etc.
