Cuphead is a classic run and gun action game heavily focused on boss battles. Inspired by cartoons of the 1930s, the visuals and audio are painstakingly created with the same techniques of the era, i.e. traditional hand drawn cel animation, watercolor backgrounds, and original jazz recordings. One of the reviewers here says code option is only for Xbox not true.

One of the reviewers here said code option is only for Xbox and not pc, he gave a bad review, what he didn’t realize is the code they give you works for both pc and Xbox, I just redeemed it myself on the windows 10 store myself so I can officially say this code works on pc.

Fun Challenging, retro arcade feel

One thing i find myself consistently saying to myself is ‘I wish games were hard like when i was a kid again’, now i dont know if that is because I was a kid and didnt know how to play games, or if they were actually challenging. However, this game is definitely a challenge. Mark my words, there is not a single boss battle where you wont die at least once.

A Delightful Contra-style 2-player Blast!

If you like Contra, Gunstar Heroes and Metal Slug and classic 2-player side-scrolling shooting games, this one is right up your alley.

Thank you, Microsoft!

What can I say? I love love love the animation! You can tell a lot of care and effort went into this. Truly surreal and charming. I commend Microsoft for investing in this independent game by Chad and Jared Moldenhauer. It is refreshing to see a side-scrolling game done with traditional animation!

Crazy hard, but fun and very satisfying!

For sure 5 stars for the game. It’s just breathtakingly incredible, everything from the animation and music, to the difficult but fun gameplay. I’m not particularly good at these kinds of games, but strangely I don’t get too mad dying repeatedly. Because it shows my progress and how far I get, it motivates me to keep trying. I’m at King Dice right now, and have died 989 times. Yes, that’s how bad I am, but I still kept trying and I made it here. It took me a long time, but I eventually learned each boss’s patterns. And when I do beat a boss, it just feels GOOD. You want to experience a high? Play this game, who needs drugs LOL

Fun, challenging, frustrating, fun game

I’m about as old-school as a gamer can be. Now past 40 and can still zoom through the Mega Man collections like it was 1990 but I mainly just play RPGs now and action/RPGs like Elder Scrolls, Fallout with a few action adventure games thrown in like Far Cry, GTA and anything with kung-fu in it. Then I saw Cuphead and knew I had to have it. I had to sit in front of the television and beat it and not stop until I had beat it. The difficulty is there but I don’t think it’s as difficult as say Mega Man or even Dark Souls. It has graphics that blow us old-school gamers away. We’re easily entertained. We grew up hopping Pitfall Harry across the heads of alligators. My overall feeling, after beating it was it was well worth the money even though it only took about 10 hours to beat. It was fun for letting my teenager son play. He’s a COD-obsessed, Super Street Fighter button-masher. He handed me the controller and told me he quit or else he was going to throw the controller. Hey, to an old-school gamer that’s when you’re having fun! If you’ve ever done this during a game, “I will not quit until I beat this one! Okay, beat that one finally, I know I can beat the next one! I will not quit until I beat this one!” Then you know what to expect. Very enjoyable game that does extend itself by loading you up with cheap kills. The kind you point at the screen and say, “How did that happen!?” Just be warned if you’re a controller-tosser. I personally would love to see more games like this.

Get This Game!

Let me start out by saying that I am 40 years old and I bought my son an Xbox for Christmas just so I can play it! This game is friggen awesome. I play almost every day with my kids. I come from the 2D run through gaming generation and am just incapable of playing 3D games hahaha. Yes, as most have pointed out the game is difficult. But that’s the best part. There are little glitches here and there but nothing a restart won’t fix. It’s a highly addictive game and really hope they come out with a cuphead II. Try it, you won’t be disappointed.

Changing the control layout made it much easier. I’m used to Right Trigger for shooting and Left Trigger for locking.

Cuphead might turn this mom into a gamer!

Full disclosure: I have always been obsessed with 1930’s cartoons. I relate to things in life by saying, “Hey, this is just like on that old cartoon where they….” So I pretty much bought Cuphead under the guise of being a game that maybe I’d play sometimes with my 2 boys. Let’s be real though, I wanted to enjoy the animation myself.

Excellent 1930’s style game. Difficult but rewarding. A rare gem of a game
