I’m a longtime Star Wars fan who is into tech and, yes, hyped for Episode VII. Considering purchasing BB-8? First, have a compatible smartphone and be aware that it recharges via USB. Taking the price of the Sphero alone at about $129, the Star Wars treatment and BB-8 personality (BB-8 head, design and app sounds) are worth the additional cost.

Your cat will love you forever and give you cuddles and you will annoy your facebook friends with Cat+BB-8 photos

great little toy for the star wars fan. it comes with a charging station and usb cord. I charge it with a plug in outlet adapter that delivers 1 amp so it charges quickly in about an hour. if charging from your computer it may take longer. a blue light on the charging base blinks on and off to tell you its charging and when fully charged its stays on continuously. this is important to know because it uses inductive charging and it has to be upright in the charging base in order for it to charge properly. it has internal lights that blink or flash different colors depending on bb8’s mood or when its out exploring. that is its best feature in my opinion – explore mode. it has different feedback data that appears on the app while exploring: temperature, speed, distance traveled, accelerometer, collision warning, stability/gyroscopic info, mapping, to name a few. it also has voice recognition with preprogrammed responses for a few commands, like “its a trap!” or “go explore” or “how do you feel?”. the controls gets some getting used to. theres also a speed setting and I set mine on low so I can get better control when navigating around obstacles. at its highest setting it can go pretty fast at a great distance (whatever the Bluetooth range is for your phone/tablet) but there’s a risk of knocking its head off when it crashes into something– no problem for bb8 but he does get angry.
