A good version of Minecraft: could be better, but my kids really like it

January 2017 update: My kids still play this to death. They have spent more time playing in this game than any other game on the Wii U or any other system we have.

Ignore the negative reviews, most are complaining about buying another controller and not rating the actual game!

Okay there seems to be a lot of confusion on this game. If you want to play with just 1 player, then all you need is the game pad. If you want to do multi-player, you’ll have to get either the Nintendo Pro Controller or the classic controller that plugs into the wii remote. You can still use the game pad during multi player but make sure that the game pad does not display the game on it. This will not allow you to play multi player otherwise. Everyone is rating this poorly because they have to buy another controller but the reality is that Nintendo has been shifting away from the wii remote for awhile. The pro controllers are great. As for the game itself it is everything you’d expect in a minecraft game with tons of extras that make it well worth the $30. The kids I watch have played minecraft on other systems and they love this!

Excellent Fun & Educational

I purchased this for my children who are 7 and 9 and they absolutely love it. I have tried Minecraft in a variety of platforms from iOS to multiple consoles and so far this version has been one of the most fun, with the largest variety of skin packs geared for children. Currently the kids are dressed up are a variety of people & animals (it changes daily) from the Mario world. The interface is easy to use with some basic reading and the ability to be in “creative” mode allows the kids to get materials, build and craft without the more hard “survival” setting so that they can be creative without being attacked. In addition, the ability to keep inventory on death and set the settings for each player connecting allows us to lock down the game so their worlds aren’t destroyed and random people don’t join their games, making it fairly secure for their play time.

Cute.

My kids were super excited to get this game. So we were sort of bummed when it came in and we couldn’t do multi player without me googling to try to figure out the issue and finding out I needed to go buy the $50 pro remote. Made my fun little purchase a bit more spendy…. Other than that, my 7 year old boys are thrilled. Mario and minecraft? What could be better??

Nice to see my teenagers enjoying building in a game …

Nice to see my teenagers enjoying building in a game rather than destroying. I wasn’t sure they’d go for it, but they’ve been taking turns creating structures ever since this arrived. Note – in order to do this multiplayer on the WiiU, you have to be connected through an HTMI cable to the TV (we have) and have the Classic Wii controllers (we haven’t).

My daughter loves this game but make sure you have the pro controller

My daughter loves Minecraft on the ipad but she always likes playing with other players which isn’t possible unless they have their own ipads. So I bought this for her as a Christmas present and she loved it. Just a heads up though in order to play with others you need to have the Wii pro controller. We didn’t realize this and spent awhile trying to figure out how to get into multi-player mode. I had to search Google to figure out we needed the pro controller and then ordered a set. Now she’s able to play with other players and loves the game.

Nothing new for veteran players but worth it for the newcomer.

It’s Minecraft, Plays extremely well on the Wii U and looks great. The Mario Mash up pack is quirky and fun. Being able to play two players one on the TV and one on the gamepad is a nice touch and keeps the kids happy. Hours of fun for anyone wanting to finally get into Minecraft. However nothing new if you’re a Minecraft veteran.

great game

My son loves this game, he is the only one that plays it so we didn’t need pro controllers, but if we would’ve it wouldn’t have been a big deal, he loves minecraft and I’m just so glad that he can now play it on his wii u, better late than never. Apart from the regular minecraft game it has a whole Mario Bros minecraft world which my child enjoys more than the regular one. The only complaint I have is that the music can get annoying but my son doesn’t seem to mind it.

Glad Minecraft is available for the WiiU

My 10 year old son was super excited to receive this gift for Christmas. He has done a little exploring in the worlds so far. I know that he will enjoy this for many years. I wish that there were more good games available for the WiiU. It seems like they are very limited and we don’t want to purchase another system.

FUN game
