I ordered this for my 2.5 year old daughter who is VERY curious about the kitchen, cooking, etc. She has a play kitchen and tons of plastic “play food”, however, I have found that she loses interest in them quickly overall (the play kitchen keeps her attention longer if/when we allow her to use real water in the pots and non-draining sink…). If this sounds like your child, read on!

Great toy to enoucourage speech and pre-writing skills (and my son loves it!)

My son is obsessed with this toy set. It was recommended by our speech therapist as a toy for open-ended play to encourage speech. She said it also encourages pre-writing skills (by teaching them to use one hand to hold the food while cutting with the other, the way they’ll eventually hold a piece of paper with one hand as they write with the other). I never understood these sets, but now I do. Santa did good with this one.

2 year old enjoys this toy so much, I’ve made it my mission to buy all Melissa & Doug cutting toys. I’ve already ordered the cookies as well!

Very fun!

My 2Y4M son loves cutting food and plays with it several times everyday. The paint job on the fruit is not excellent, but it doesn’t effect the fun my son has. I was debating whether buying this or other brand with plastic cutting food, but I am glad I made the right decision. Because not only this wood food is true to size and easier for toddler to hold, the sound it makes when the cutting knife hit the cutting board is also realistic to the real action. I would recommend this set and I plan to buy another Melissa & Doug cutting fruit set to expend the kitchen toys.

One of the best toys for toddlers

I have purchased this product twice, both times for two year old grandsons and it was a hit both times. Cutting apart food held together with Velcro seems heh, but to those little ones it is like crack! You’ll have to sit there for hours putting the pieces together so they can “cut” them apart. It isn’t as easy as it sounds. The Velcro is super tough and they have to learn how to best hold and place the knife to get it thru. I love everything about this set except the wood box it comes in which is pretty much worthless. Get a good plastic container with a lid to keep the pieces in and you are set.

Neat cutting food practice set.

This cutting food set seems to be pretty good quality. The pieces are quite large, most things are pretty true to real size, or just slightly smaller.

Excellent product and such a great idea

Excellent product and such a great idea. Great for little hands on all counts- the size of veggies is great, the knife works perfectly (although at first look, I thought the knife was too big for my two year old). The quality/ make of all the foods is good.
