Exploding Kittens is a card game for people who are into kittens and explosions and laser beams and sometimes goats. In this highly-strategic, kitty-powered version of Russian Roulette, players draw cards until someone draws an Exploding Kitten, at which point they explode, they are dead, and they are out of the game — unless that player has a defuse card, which can defuse the Kitten using things like laser pointers, belly rubs, and catnip sandwiches. All of the other cards in the deck are used to move, mitigate, or avoid the Exploding Kittens. Exploding Kittens is the most-backed crowd funded project ever, the most-funded game in the history of Kickstarter, and has paved the way for peace and tranquility in the modern world.

This is a fun short card game that takes a few minutes to learn and a minute to master. Players take turns playing cards out of their hand then drawing a single card at the end of their turn. If the card is an Exploding Kitten, that person is out of the game. There are cards called Defuse that can prevent the Exploding Kitten from ending your game, but they are very limited. There are many cards that that can help a player manipulate the deck like See The Future (look at the top 3 cards), Shuffle, Skip, and Attack (make the next player take two turns). There are combinations to play to gain additional cards. The Nope card can negate almost any action, and you can Nope a Nope to make a Yup. The art is by The Oatmeal, so it’s certainly not normal for a card game, but it fits the theme.

Fun family game.

This is such a fun game. Our 4 year old, 8 year old and 10 year old love it. The game has pictures in the corner – so you don’t have to be a reader to play the game – but it took our 4 year old a few times of playing the game to get used to it, and know what the cards do. The older kids loved it right away. We played the “adult” version first and realized that it is such a creative game of strategy, that our kids would really like it – so we were thrilled to find an “appropriate” kid version. Although, this version is super funny and we didn’t really “need” to have the adult one – the cards are appropriate for kids and adults alike.
